Watford Mayor presses Transport Minister for better train services

Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, has written to the Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps, to call for improved train services and funding for train companies.

In conversation with local train operators, the Mayor has been informed that funding cuts from central government have meant that timetables are not yet able to resume pre-pandemic levels.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said “The government must stop using the pandemic as an excuse to not properly fund essential services such as trains. While they tell us all to get back to the office and ‘live with Covid’ they must ensure we have adequate transport to enable this to happen.

“A number of residents have told me the difficulties they are having getting back to work because trains are infrequent and unreliable. We need to see more investment in our trains and a review of services that currently run in and around Watford.

“It is so important that people have affordable, reliable and frequent train services. The current situation is simply not good enough.”
