Current Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, has been unanimously voted by the local Liberal Democrat party to once again stand for election as Mayor of Watford in the upcoming election. Peter has been serving as the Elected Mayor of Watford since 2018, previously having also been deputy mayor, an Oxhey Ward Councillor and a teacher.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said “It has been a privilege to serve as Watford’s mayor since 2018. Watford is certainly no ordinary town and I have loved meeting so many residents and local groups.
“The local Liberal Democrat team have a record of working hard for the town and have made a difference – introducing the popular Beryl bikes, reducing the number of people sleeping rough on our streets and opening the brilliant new facilities at Oxhey Activity Park. We will always stand up for our town and must continue to fight the unfair and unrealistic housing targets set for Watford by the government.
“Without doubt the biggest challenge we have faced since I became mayor has been the Covid pandemic. We will always remember with sadness the lives lost and the sacrifices made by so many. But we will also be proud of the service of frontline workers and the way our town came together, helped those most in need and supported local businesses. The council has supported the NHS throughout and I’m grateful to all of those who have helped with the vaccinations at the Town Hall.
“As we recover from the pandemic, I’m determined that we work together to make Watford an even better place for everyone. That is why I will be standing in this election. If I’m re-elected, my priorities will be to create more jobs, make our town greener and support those most in need.”
