Peter Taylor, the current Mayor of Watford, has launched his manifesto in anticipation of the upcoming local and mayoral elections in Watford.
The manifesto, titled ‘Standing Up For Watford’, sets out the Liberal Democrat plans for Watford over the next four years, including key pledges to:
- Secure new hospital facilities
- Oppose unfair Tory housing targets
- Tackle climate change and traffic congestion
- Invest in parks and plant 20,000 trees
- End rough sleeping in Watford
- Keep council tax down
Baroness Dorothy Thornhill and Daisy Cooper MP for St Albans attended the launch and spoke to members about the success of Watford over the last 4 years in addition to rallying campaigners for the rest of the campaign.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said “We’ve got a proud record of improving our parks, working with local charities to reduce the number of people sleeping rough and keeping council tax rises below inflation. For the last two years we’ve had the lowest increase in council tax in Hertfordshire.
“This manifesto sets out our determination to secure new facilities at Watford General, to fight the unfair housing targets set for us by the Conservative government and to cut congestion in our town. Local residents know that the local Liberal Democrat team work hard all year round. We want to stand up for Watford so that this town is greener and safer and we care for everyone in our community.”
Baroness Dorothy Thornhill, former Mayor of Watford, said “I am incredibly proud of the way Peter has delivered for Watford over the last four years and shown he can make tough decisions. I can think of no-one better to lead our town going forward.
“The hard work and dedication of the Watford Lib Dem team is evident in the continued delivery of services for residents. With the unprecedented challenge of a global pandemic, the team has continued to fulfil key commitments and set ambitious new goals.
“I look forward to seeing how Peter and his team put this new plan into action to make Watford an even better place to live.”
Daisy Cooper, Member of Parliament for St Albans and Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats, said “Peter Taylor and Watford Liberal Democrats have a record of success of which they can be rightly proud. From the Beryl Bike scheme, to the award-winning Green Flag parks and the commitment to end rough sleeping, they have shown they are a council that cares and a council that delivers.
“Their positive forward-looking vision for Watford has been shaped by talking to thousands and thousands of residents; I have no doubt that Peter and the Lib Dem team will continue to deliver for Watford if re-elected in May.”
